John Russo leads PMRA Points going into Lancaster Raceway Park
And veteran team will miss race as new Grainy car not ready yet
CAYUGA, ONTARIO (July 6, 2007) – One of the Pro Modified Racing Association’s veteran teams, and co-sponsor of the upcoming third round of Pro Modified Racing Association later this month, will not have its new car ready for its racing debut.
“We’re close, but I’m pretty sure we won’t be ready for Lancaster,” said Sonny Grainy of North Tonawanda, NY, who along with brother Jack, head up the Grainy Brothers Racing Pro Modified entry.
The next race will be the Third Annual PMRA Challenge presented by G-Force Race Cars, Grainy’s Automotive, and Niagara Auto, on July 29 at Lancaster Raceway Park north of Buffalo in Clarence, NY. This IHRA-sanctioned facility will be one of two eighth-mile races for the teams this year.
The new Grainy car will be a G-Force 1967 Camaro with one of the KB-based 526-cubic inch supercharged Big Chief engines built by fellow PMRA competitor Mike Stawicki.
“ We’ll be out this year for sure,” added Sonny, who is the team’s crew chief. “When I just can’t say, but we’ll be out there.”
He added that the team has sold its former Pro Modified, the 1992 Beretta, a race car that probably has more runs on it than any other Pro Modified, and took the team to a runner-up finish in the 2005 PMRA points race.
Leading the 2007 PMRA Point Series sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline a division of Ashland Inc., Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated at present is John Russo of MA with his Al Billes-tuned Camaro. Russo, who leads with 571 points, won the season opener at Toronto Motorsports Park, but had some problems and was a first-round loser in the second event, also held at Toronto Motorsports Park.
In second with 560 points is the Hammer Racing entry of Larry Sinke of Welland, ON. Sinke qualified his 1967 Nova number one for the first event, but was a first-round loser. He was a semi-finalist in the second race. Third with 549 points is the NitroMoose/Ajax Engines 1957 Chevy of Kirk and Maria Silbermann out of Ajax, ON, with Scott Wildgust behind the controls.
In fourth is Toronto’s Gary Irving with 547 points. Irving, who drives a 1937 Chevy Coupe-bodied Pro Modified, has qualified well with his Lowdown Hotrods entry, while in fifth spot is 2006 PMRA co-champ Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, NY. Driving the Smokin’ Joe’s Dodge Avenger, Boniferro has 545 points.

The Third Annual PMRA Challenge presented by G-Force Race Cars, Grainy's Automotive, and Niagara Auto, will take place Sunday, July 29 at Lancaster Raceway Park, just outside of Buffalo, in Clarence, New York.
Joining the PMRA at Toronto Motorsports Park will be the CAN-AM Stock/Super Stock Series. This popular grass-roots drag series that features competitors from Ontario, New York and Michigan, was formed in 1996, and continues to grow each season.
