PMRA teams at Grand Bend
IHRA Canadian Nationals
Several Pro Modified Racing Association teams were competing in the recent IHRA Canadian Nationals at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, ON.
Brantford’s Mark Nielsen debuted his new G-Force Race Cars, ERD-powered Yenko Camaro bodied Pro Modified, and although he did not qualify in his new car debut, he won the meet’s Best Appearing Car award.
Other PMRA teams and drivers at Grand Bend included Ike Maier of Tottenham, ON, who qualified number one in the event’s Top Sportsman category with his 1969 Camaro, and the Rochester, NY team of Joe Caruso and Mike Cusimano, who qualified number two in the same class with their 1994 Corvette.
Carl Spiering of Jordan Station, ON, was at Grand Bend, but the Eaton Road Warrior failed to qualify at an IHRA event since 2004 and the team did not make the show. Tony Pontieri qualified fifth and lost first round to the eventual Pro Modified winner, Toronto’s Raymond Commisso. The Guenther Racing team driver, Matt Guenther from Livonia, NY, qualified its 41 Willys in the Top Sportsman category.
And Scott Wildgust, who drives the Kirk Silbermann NitroMoose/Ajax Engines PMRA entry out of Ajax, ON, was out of the Pro Modified for the weekend, piloting Spiro Kontos - KonRodz Alcohol Funny Car and qualified sixth for the show, but was taken out in first round action.
