PMRA rookie Ike Maier leads the Tour going to Sanair event
Guenther, Wildgust, Boland, and Andreacchi ready for round four
TOTTENHAM, ONTARIO (August 14, 2007) – First-year PMRA competitor Ike Maier, who presently leads the 2007 point series standings, said is he ready for the upcoming Second Annual Eaton PMRA Challenge Presented by Eaton at Sanair this weekend.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been leading a points race,” said Maier. “But the car is ready, I’m ready, and I hope to do well at Sanair.”
Maier also said running the previous PMRA event on an eighth-mile drag strip would help him at the famous Quebec track just outside of St-Pie, Quebec.
The PMRA series will be running eighth-mile at Sanair.
He added you have to stay focused and keep on your game plan, and realizes with the tight points race, any mistake at Sanair could keep him out of contention.
Maier also said running the shorter track is safer and easier on the car. “The shorter track is easier on the equipment. You’ve got less chance of breaking and it’s safer.”
He added that running on the eighth-mile strip is good for the racing resume. “Running an eighth-mile helps overall,” he said. “It rounds a guy out.”
Maier, from Tottenham, Ontario leads the PMRA field with 775 points going into Sanair. Matt Guenther of Livonia, New York in the Guenther Racing 1941 Willys is second with 764 points, and Scotty Wildgust of Stratford, Ontario is third in the NitroMoose/Ajax Engines 1957 Chevy with 757 points.
Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, runner-up in the Lancaster event, is next with his B&B 1953 Corvette entry with 755 points, and former PMRA champion Joe Lilienthal of Kenmore, New York is fifth with 750 points in the KC Motorsports Beretta. Winner of the Toronto Motorsports Park race, Sam Andreacchi, of Toronto, Ontario is sixth in his 1969 Chevy Nova with 675 points.
Also scheduled to compete at Sanair are last year’s finalist Carl Spiering of Jordan Station Ontario in the Eaton Road Warrior, Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario, Mike Cusimano of Rochester, New York, Dave Earhart of Strathroy, Ontario, and Mark Mitchell of East Otto, New York.
Situated just outside of St-Pie, Quebec, the Sanair track is just south of Montreal. This year’s race will be the fourth on the 2007 PMRA Tour.
