PMRA series rookies Jack and Chris Brohman no strangers to drag racing

Brohman team preparing for 2008 PMRA Pro Modified season

JARVIS, ONTARIO (January 21, 2008) – Jack Brohman may be retired, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t busy.

“I may be retired but it doesn’t feel like it,” said the Jarvis, Ontario resident. “We’ve been working a lot on getting this new race car ready.”

The Nazca Racing team is working on a 1969 Camaro-bodied Pro Modified, and will be entering its first year of Pro Modified Racing Association competition when it rolls up to the line at the Victoria Day Weekend - PMRA Challenge May 17 and 18. Powered by an Alan Johnson 526-cubic inch supercharged engine, the team is presently getting the Joe Van Overbeek body prepared and painted to sit on top of the LJ chassis.

While Brohman may be a rookie to the PMRA, he’s certainly no rookie on the drag strip.

“I started racing in 1965,” he said. “I went at it for a couple of years, and then took a long time off. In 1994 I got back into it with a series of Pro, Super Pro, and Pro Comp cars. Then we ran a Top Sportsman car at Grand Bend, and were in the OSCA’s 8.90 class.”

He added he was hoping to get into Pro Modified last season, but this year he should be ready. “We wanted to get into it last year, but it just didn’t happen.”

Brant FloSponsored by BrantFLO Hydraulics, the new entry will be crew chiefed by Jack’s son Chris Brohman.

According to Brohman, the team wanted to get into a quicker car, and plans to concentrate on the Pro Modified division.

The Top Sportsman car was nice, but too slow,” he said. “We want to go fast.”

PMRA tour stops in 2008 include two dates at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, Lancaster Raceway Park in New York State, Sanair in Quebec and the Southwestern Ontario track of Grand Bend Motorplex.

Negotiations are underway with several US race tracks based in Michigan, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania with the plan of presenting a seven-event PMRA drag racing series this season.
