Bruce Boland to introduce new Corvette
at PMRA opener
2007 Champion will be ready for May Pro Modified race at Cayuga’s TMP
HAMILTON, ONTARIO (May 3, 2008) - The champ will be ready for the start of the 2008 Pro Modified Racing Association season Presented by Torco Racing Fuels Ontario at the Third Annual Victoria Day Weekend - PMRA Challenge May 17 and 18 at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario.
Hamilton Ontario’s Bruce Boland, the 2007 PMRA Points Champion, will be debuting his new 1963-bodied Corvette Pro Modified, and said the car will be ready.
“The car’s almost done,” said Boland. “Will we be ready? Absolutely.”
Last year Boland installed a new ERD (Engine Research & Development) 526 cubic-inch Brad Anderson Hemi in his 1953 Corvette Pro Modified, and this year a new body and chassis will make him a bigger threat than ever with the ERD power plant.
But with several strong new teams in the PMRA this year, plus extensive upgrades and rebuilding with established teams, Boland is aware the competition will be intense.
“There’s going to be a strong group of cars this year, and a big bunch of cars. The racing is going to be the best we’ve ever seen. I’m really looking forward to getting out there.”
Several PMRA teams have upgraded, rebuilt, or are building new cars for this year, including the Tonawanda New York-based team of Sonny and Jack Grainy, the Ajax Engines entry of Kirk Silbermann of Oshawa, Ontario, with Scott Wildgust driving, and the nitrous-powered Willys of Guenther Racing of Livonia, New York.
The May 17 – 18 event is the first in the six-race PMRA Tour for 2008. With increased sponsorship, a record number of teams, and a reinstated Chicago-style Shoot-out to round out the eliminations, this season promises to be the best ever for the PMRA.
There will be three qualifying sessions on Saturday, May 17, starting at 4 p.m. Eliminations for the top eight qualifiers will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday May 18, along with qualifying in the Ajax Engines Chicago-Style Shootout. Finals will begin at about 4 p.m.
Joining the PMRA Pro Modifieds at Toronto Motorsports Park will be the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series. This popular grass-root drag series, which features competitors from Ontario and New York, was formed in 1996, and continues to grow each season. The participants, known for their awesome wheelies, are fan favorites wherever they appear.
